Red Lion, Main Road, Chelmondiston, Ipswich, Suffolk IP9 1DX

When we bought the Red Lion, it was a somewhat run down village pub in need of work. As a result the Red Lion has received a substantial rebuild transforming  it into a comfortable place to stop and eat, or just have a drink.  We prefer not to use the term "gastropub", it is a pub/restaurant serving good food in attractive surroundings, the beer is well looked after and the coffee is worth drinking.  In short, we hope to make the Red Lion everything a contemporary pub should be.

As well as concentrating on the essentials such as the quality of food and service, the Red Lion has a large car park, outside patio dining in the summer months, and offers a spacious feel to the dining and bar areas with interior decorations and furniture that is stylish and contemporary.

Our aim is to provide affordable, good food.  The emphasis is on flavour and quality of ingredients, we pride ourselves on the wide variety of fish and meat we prepare, all in our kitchen, and in addition to traditional British food we enjoy producing a number of authentic Asian and Indian dishes which are very popular.  Vegetarians are catered for and if there is something you see on our menu that you wish cooked differently, we are happy to accommodate any reasonable request.

The front of house team at the Red Lion will warmly welcome you and ensure that your visit is an enjoyable experience and one that you will want to repeat.  In our bar we always have Adnams Southwold bitter available together with a good selection of bottled beers, wine and spirits.

There is ample room to sit and we have a comfortable lounge area for those waiting to eat or just relaxing.

Enjoy a relaxing and restful stay in this beautifully converted little barn, located in the lovely Suffolk countryside, on the Shotley peninsula near Woolverstone. Close to the rivers Orwell and Stour and surrounded by a multitude of splendid walking opportunities. Restored in the grounds of the Red Lion, one of the loveliest restaurants in the area.

This stylish, self-contained, open plan home from home, has been tastefully fitted out, equipped and furnished to the highest standards. There is a Kingsize bed making sleeping a dream. A luxurious walk in shower room, with wash basin and toilet. A wonderfully spacious lounge and dining area. To make self-catering as simple as baking a cake, there is a modern, fully appointed kitchen.

WALKS AROUND CHELMONDISTON

The area around Chelmondiston and Pin Mill is very popular with those wishing to exercise their legs.  Walkers are welcome in the Red Lion although it would be appreciated if muddy boots were removed prior to entry.
